Tom Uytterhoeven‘s insight:

Tis article tries to do two things: (1) to argue that the theory of evolution and religion are compatible because they were so for Wallace, (2) to argue that the theory of evolution and religion belong to two separate realms because that’s how Darwin saw them. Although these two historical arguments can to some extent show that conflict between religion ans science is not unavoidable, they can not substantiate the claim that we, in our context, necesarily have to take Darwin’s or Wallace’s position. I do believe that evolution and religion are both legitimate components of our cultural world, and that their relation can be a constructive one. But we need other arguments than historical ones to build on.
